Phiona Opoto is the founder and chief executive of Varona AI.
A Nairobi-based entrepreneur with a sharp commercial instinct and a network spanning two of the world's most dynamic technology corridors, Phiona launched Varona on a conviction she has held since founding the company: that African enterprises deserve the same caliber of operational infrastructure available to their counterparts anywhere on the planet.
Phiona is Varona's primary relationship owner with government and institutional clients — translating complex technical capabilities into clear organizational value. She brings a client-first discipline to every engagement, with a sharp read on Kenya's shifting regulatory and commercial terrain.
She leads a team with more than 50 combined years of experience spanning infrastructure modernization, resilience planning, and applied machine learning — with deep roots in sectors from public health to highly regulated industries. She is based in Nairobi.
